At BST Dental Partnership, we can undertake any NHS dental treatments available. We welcome new NHS patients and offer the following treatments throughout our dental practices located across the West Midlands.
A dental examination is the process often referred to as a check-up and a routine process where a dentist examines your teeth and check for any problems.
Regular dental examinations (ideally every six months) are very important and help you to maintain a healthy mouth. The process allows the dentist to check for early signs of dental problems such as decay or gum disease, and therefore take measures to prevent the problems becoming serious. This could save a lot of pain, time and money!
NHS dental examination falls under band 1.
If your dentist recommends a scale and polish, it should be provided under the NHS (Band 1), whether it is done by a dentist or a hygienist. If your dentist says a scale and polish is not clinically necessary but you want one anyway, you will have to pay to have it privately.
An NHS scale and polish should be carried out as thoroughly as a private one.
White fillings are available on the NHS where clinically appropriate. However, in some situations, silver-coloured (amalgam) fillings may be a more durable option. Fillings fall under Band 2.
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure to treat infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal system). This treatment is available on the NHS (Band 2). Your dentist should be able to provide it for you. However, in some cases your dentist may feel you would be better cared for by a specialist and may refer you to either a consultant or a dentist with a special interest (DwSI). The dentist should always discuss with you in advance whether treatment will be provided on the NHS or privately. The dentist can’t refuse to provide treatment under the NHS and then offer to perform the same treatment privately.

Crowns and bridges are available on the NHS (Band 3). As with all restoration treatments, they will need to be replaced in the future. They can also be provided privately. For further details on NHS dental treatments, click here to view available dental services.
Wisdom teeth can be removed on the NHS if this is necessary. However, guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence say they should not be extracted unless they are causing problems. Your dentist may perform the procedure or may refer you to a dentist with a special interest (DwSI) or to an oral and maxillofacial unit. This will be a separate course of treatment, so you may have to pay under Band 2.
Should you not be suitable for the above, your dentist will refer you for private wisdom teeth treatment if you wish.

Dentures are removable false teeth made of acrylic (plastic) or metal. Dentures are available on the NHS (Band 3)
NHS Dental charges depend on the treatment you need to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy. You will only ever be asked to pay one charge for each complete course of treatment, even if you need to visit your Dentist more than once to finish it. If you are referred to another Dentist for another, separate course of treatment, you can expect a second charge. Some minor treatments are free.
This includes an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment.
This includes all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).
This includes all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.
